Meet the Team

Convenor

Andrew Li

Our dedicated leader, Andrew represents a true AMSA recruitment success story. It only took one glorious week at Hobart19 to convince him to dedicate two years of his life towards bringing Convention to Newcastle. His unparalleled love for AMSA is second only to his commitment to cultivating a positive team culture and seeking feedback to self-improve. When not upskilling with podcasts or munching down a GYG barramundi burrito bowl, Andrew is an avid basketball player and Brazilian jujitsu enthusiast.

Deputy Convenor

Prachi Sahai

At a stunning 3 feet tall, this beautiful being has it all. Prachi uses her spare time for creative projects such as making a dress FROM SCRATCH, painting works that put Picasso to shame or making the meanest chai in the continent. Her commitment to helping both the team and delegates to reach new HAIghts means there simply could not be better human to make up half of the Deputy Convenor duo and look after Sports, Social and Creatives!!

Deputy Convenor

Maxine Manila

Maxine is one half of our Deputy Convenor duo. When you come to Newcastle you will find her marks as a triathlete on the roads, footpaths and beaches. She is secondarily known as the NEW22 DEA Dino, for her passionate advocacy of environmental sustainability. Having previously hiked to Everest Base Camp she is certainly qualified to lead the Academics and Logistics Portfolio to reach new heights!

Secretary

Sarina Zhao

Growing up immersed in instrumental, dance, art, languages and sport, Sarina likes dipping her toes in a bit of everything. So it's no suprise she enjoys engaging her unique brand of excellence across the NEW22 team and works particularly closely with IT. Outside of NEW22, Sarina is the University of Newcastle Medical Society's vice-president, and can be seen running around Newcastle and slaying the streets with her stellar sense of fashion. The human form of sunshine, Sarina will have convention organized at an altitude that will no doubt leave you breathless.

Treasurer

Randy Tjang

Growing up as the defacto tax agent for his immigrant parents, Randy has had a lifetime of experience managing finances. This frugal man owns 2 shirts, 1 pair of flamingo shorts, a belt with a buckle that turns into a can holder and a Christmas themed suit. He is a sleepless, hardworking soul whose stunning Excel spreadsheets have stolen many hearts, including that of THE Melinda Gates herself. Anyone that knows Randy will tell you no med event is complete without his presence, and everyone knows Randy.

Academic

Leo Dunstan-Potter

It has been an interesting journey into medicine for our young Leonard. Leo started off slotting in study for medicine between tackling seismic problems with his undergraduate degree in geology. Thus, clearly a lifelong learner suitably overqualified for his role as Academics officer. His interests including rock climbing, camping, hiking, cooking, good culture, crosswords and playing bass. With Leo at the helm, NEW22 academics are set to be the most in-depth, impactful, and idiomorphic that AMSA Con has ever seen.

Academic

Kate Collins

Not just a pretty face starring in our promotional video, our Academic officer Kate is the whole package - a college residential mentor, reigning Kahoot champion and piano player. As a part of the University of Newcastle's Scholars’ program, this smart cookie is more than qualified to organise an incredible academic program for NEW22. But never fear, she expertly balances study with a great night out, so the program is bound to have a few surprises in store.

Social

William Pamment

Will spent his undergrad pursuing subjects such as "beer tasting and sensory analysis" and leading some of UniMelb's most prestigious events. Winning first prize in the Busiest Medical Student competition™, he brings a plethora of experience and has even brought to life many of your NSW favourite events such as the boat party and various roadtrips. Unfortunately admitting his minimal attendance of academic plenaries in the past, you can trust that Will is the perfect Socials Convenor. No social is unimaginable, after all, where there's a Will there's a way.

✉️: social@new22.org

Social

Sachin Mahajan

This man loves Con culture - simple as that. A proven UNSW superhero, Sach is bringing his flair to the Hunter for the best socials one can offer. When not involved in running every med student conference in NSW, he can be found causing chaos with co-social head Will, generally looking dapper, or showcasing his multilingualness. Whilst he'll be unoriginal as the 3rd Dr. S. Mahajan in his family, his NEW22 socials won't be. Sach’ll see you on the dance floor at Con 2022!

Sport and EMC

Tyson Zhang

Tall as a hoop at 6'5 and with the wingspan of an albatross, there's no suprise Tyson dominates on court. Nevertheless, he doesn't let the popularity (or thin atmosphere up there) get to his head. Tyson brings all the good vibes (surfs and skates), WILL look out for you on a night out and is known to enjoy a good chai latte, roadtrip, and apprends le français. With a love of all things sport and surgery, who better to bring you NEW22 Sports day and EMC?

✉️: sport@new22.org

Sport and EMC

Aasim Shakoor

Co-leading sports, Aasim sports one impressive beard. It is said that his beard hides the secrets to the universe and that if you attempt to shave it off you’ll be struck by lightning. This man can be found on a field playing soccer and Oztag, in front of a TV playing PlayStation and or at raves pumping to the beat. All UNE students know your boy will provide a sports day to remember.

Creative

Felicity Cheng

Felicity is the embodiment of creativity, owning accolades all the way from photography and modelling to producing musicals and baking croissants. She brightens the room with her energy and cheerfulness and is always happy to lend a helping hand, especially when answering your questions on our social media accounts. Her talent lies in writing captivating social media posts to entice any medical student to reach new heights with our team. A strong advocate for pineapple on pizza and fries with soft-serve, Felicity will whet your visual and verbal appetite in an engaging sweet and salty convention.

Creative

Bonnie Zhu

Creativity bursts forth from Bonnie so freely and to such a high standard that it's truly inspiring to work with her. Whether it's graphic design (as the talent behind our logo), video editing, photography, drawing with biro or painting with acrylic, you can be sure that Bonnie has the skills in her arsenal to match her brilliant ideas. Outside of being *that artsy med student*, Bonnie is a gym bunny (ECHT sponsor her!), dances with energy and precision, loves watching k-dramas and WILL pull an all-nighter working in AMSA projects because she is "having so much fun".

Logistics

Joanna Fu

Despite her inability to sum up two cells in excel, Jo’s meticulous organisation and negotiation skills are an incredible asset for a Logistics Officer. When she’s not claiming that her excessive brunching is for “scoping potential catering companies for NEW22”, you’ll find her doing research or gyming (she is an avid member of the F45 cult). Together with Nazli, Jo is ecstatic to bring stunning academic venues, great accommodation and delicious food to our Convention.

✉️: logistics@new22.org

Logistics

Nazli Bahtigur

Despite her short stature, Nazli has the strength to beat anyone in an arm wrestle and lift you up. Enlightened by her experience as part of the GHC 2019 team, Nazli brings the exceptional expertise and logistical gems required for a seamless Convention experience. When she’s not working on all things AMSA, you’ll find her fascinated by history podcasts or indulging in 2000's gymnastics movies.

Sponsorship

Olivia Freeman

An unbeatable combination of charm and determination, Liv is our wonderful sponsorship officer. Whether you catch her singing centre stage at MedRevue, sprinting down the hockey field or throwing stitches in patients as a mere second year, you can be guaranteed she won’t hold back. With communication skills that put ‘Talley & O'Connor's Clinical Examination – Chapter 2: Advanced History Taking’ to shame, you can trust Liv to negotiate her way to new heights.

✉️: sponsorship@new22.org

Sponsorship

Neha Gupta

Representing Western Sydney University, we have the kindest and strongest power woman, Neha. Her favourite hobbies include standoffs with her labrador Rocky, dancing at other people’s weddings, and preparing well in advance for her own. In the last few years, Neha has played important roles in writing AMSA policies and being a part of GHC19’s successful social subcommittee. As sponsorship officer, this all-rounder is bound to make sure you reach new heights at NEW22!

✉️: sponsorship@new22.org

Risk and Welfare

Jenny Siu

Once affectionately nicknamed “Grand Master” not just for her geniusness pulling us out of PBL ditches but also for her martial arts prowess, Jenny has all the strength to SPOT our team and LIFT you to new heights. Jenny is passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health and from her own experiences creates a safe space for our team to be more open. With this, plus her extensive involvement with St Johns Ambulance, you know you can trust Jenny to keep you safe and supported though all your oopsies come convention.

✉️: riskandwelfare@new22.org

Risk and Welfare

Dimithi Kasthurirathne

Dimi is the one for solid banter AND DnMs. With her energy, humour and mum friend personality, anyone can vibe with this girl. Her lifeforce is good feeds and folk music, but if you're lucky, you might catch her rapping some Eminem without missing a beat. Dimi will be perfect, like her winged liner, for handling the risk and welfare of delegates!

✉️: riskandwelfare@new22.org

IT

Anirudh Shetty

Anirudh brings the perfect amount of quiet calm energy to ground our NEW22 team. As an avid watcher of foreign movies (ask him about his collection), and energetic player of ultimate frisbee (don't ask him if it’s a real sport), he brings all the good wacky vibes to NEW22. While his ancient iPhone may not immediately spark confidence in his technological capabilities, Anirudh is simply a whiz with big visions for ways tech can connect and take delegates to new heights.

IT

Pramudith Perera

Pramu lives for technology, but is always down for a good feed and a hot chocolate. His ongoing three year stint as designated driver means you know he’s got the patience to deal with all your last minute IT issues and cries for help. He's always one step ahead, both with uni work and with clues for NEW22, so keep an eye out for the work of this technological guru.
